HNC V Turnford

With HNC coming into this game off the back off a good win against Chester, everyone knew this was potentially the biggest game of the season. The top two teams of Prem 2 meant the winner would most likely go on to win the title.

Cote started well with the attacking unit of Allison, Thompson, Brookes and O’Dwyer settling well. The pace was fast with some precision feeds coming from Shona O’Dwyer. The pace of the game was high with goals being exchanged by both teams. The momentum was with HNC though who ended on a three goal run ending the quarter 14-12 up.

Both GS’s were converting shots and the scoreline didn’t stray from a few goals either way. With Hucclecotes attack of Thompson and O’Dwyer working tirelessly to defend midcourt putting pressure on Turnford’s transition. By half time is was all square at 26-26

Changes at half time saw Laura Tildesley on at WD who immediately injected some fresh legs and rewarded her hard graft with an inteception. Hucclecote edged ahead by 1 goal. Turnford responded by going up a gear and gaining momentum converting 5 goals on the bounce. This put HNC on the back foot and now we were going to have to work hard to get the momentum back. Respond we did with our own 3 goal spur bringing the score to 31 – 33 still in Turnford’s favour. By the end of the 3rd Q Turnford and had the better 15 minutes and were rewarded with a 42 – 36 scoreline.

Down but not out HNC didn’t quite come out as hard as needed. Turnford pushed hard and still notched up goals. With control in their hands they were clearly trying to run the clock down much to the frustration of both HNC players and bench. When allowed to play HNC still took their CP to goal. With the last part of the quarter going goal for goal
