HUCCLECOTE NETBALL CLUB U.16’S THROUGH TO NATIONALS
Hucclecote Netball Club U.16’s Squad sponsored by Alfa Dragon Cement secured their place to attend National Finals after remaining undefeated at the South West Regional Play-offs yesterday.
Dragons , continued their winning ways when they took on the other top 3 contenders in the South West. With great parental support on hand, their first match against Saints from Cornwall saw them a little nervous and it was Saints who pulled out a brilliant first quarter performance, securing ball through court and nailing the shots to take the lead 9-7 at the first interval. Hucclecote however slowly worked through this and during the second phase clawed back the deficit with some great play from Darcey Scott and Capt. Harriet Sanderson and went on to lead by 18 -16 at half time. Dragons third quarter saw them on fire with Hannah Howl at the back turning a vast number of interceptions and this enabled Hucclecote Dragons to push on strongly taking the win to secure their first 5 points by 38 goals to 28.

Their next fixture against Team Bath saw them step up to another level, and the flow through court was clinical from the outset. Dragons defensive trio continued to pressure hard showing some great linkages and switching taking the lead to 25 goals to 11 at half time. Meanwhile the shooting circle connections made Bath’slife difficult with Katya Jennings putting out a solid performance, scoring consistently high percentages. Changes were made withAmy Cook on at WD and she worked like a terrier marking hard and pressured and intercepted throughout the second half helping her team to another fantastic win by 44 goals to 17.

Hucclecote Dragons continued to press hard, and in their final match of the day against Poole, set the scene early taking a 9-3 quarter lead which they extended to 21-9 at half time. A solid performance from all squad members in each game demonstrated how much strength and depth Hucclecote have this year, but it was the young U.15 player Nadine Baird who impressed in the final game. Baird produced an awesome performance demonstrating great athleticism throughout the game helping her team to a final victory of 42 goals to 21.
