Hucclecote 52 – Oaksway 38

An early start for Prem could only mean one thing, a road trip up North to take on recently relegated Oaksway. After a 4.5 hour trip the squad arrived and quickly set about warming up. The starting 7 of AllisonReed, Lebe, O’DwyerC. Jones, Cubello and Powell-Davies took to court with designated targets set. It started relatively even with both sides scoring off their centre pass. Oaksway were dominating and effectively closing down HNC’s strengths and this saw them 2 up by quarter time 10 – 12.

With the lineup kept the same Cote were told to tidy up their handling and to recognize the critical moments if they wanted to get back in control. This would be a good test as the Prem side found themselves chasing for the first time this season. Defensively, Cote began to pick up loose balls and the newly formed partnership of Cubello and Powell-Davies started to gel and turnovers gained (an impressive 10 this quarter).Allison at GS started to dominate and after a shaky start was back to her usual composed style of play netting 9/10 shots. Half time and HNC had clawed it back to a one goal lead 24-23

Changes at HT saw Beth Gabriel on at GA and and Sam Cook take to court at GK. Cook’s presence immediately unnerved the Oaksway GS who started to miss shots allowing Cote to get the rebound. A more confident looking Hucclecotesecured a 3 goal run and suddenly looked in control.

The final quarter needed to be big. Changes saw Lydia Joneson at WD and Clare Jones move to C. These changes worked well with the attack growing in confidence with each CP. Our attempts on goal rose to an impressive 21 whilst Oakswaywere reduced to only 11. The Prem squad needed testing and Oaksway certainly did this for most of the game. We showed resilience and control to get the win and maintain the unbeaten record.
