Dragons Still Top of the Table

Hucclecote U.16 Dragons had a run-away victory against Jersey Jets on Sunday in the South West Regional Division One League.  Dominating from the start, Hucclecote set a cracking pace and although Jets worked hard, they struggled to contain Hucclecote’s shooting circle where Georgie Thorpe was an easy target and earned Player of the Match after scoring 39/44 attempts 89% and was closely followed by Captain Katie Pauling at 88%. Milly Page made her debut in this game in the defence end where the unit worked well together, and they eventually ran out winners 89-17.

Player of Match :- Georgie Thorpe  39/44 attempts 89%.

Sophia Winfield: 13/18 72%

Katie Pauling: 37/42 88%

Their second game on the day saw them take on 3rd placed West Ex and it was West Ex who stayed close on their tail during the first quarter leaving a close 2 goal margin in Dragons favour.  The second quarter saw a lack lustre start by the Dragons, as they had few opportunities to goal so changes were made switching Pauling to GA and changed their defence end along with this.  Scarlett Jinks made an instant impact at GK turning 2 clean intercepts and this enabled Dragons to maintain a narrow 19-15 lead at half time.  The second half saw a complete turn round in their game plan and suddenly Hucclecote’s game lifted, was clinical through to the goal and they stormed to a 38-23  lead at ¾.  Natasha Englefield worked tireslessly taking great care of the ball to goal and with Jinks dictating at the back and forcing West Ex to make errors, Hucclecote went on a rally in the final 15 goals and took the win 53 goals to 30.  Jinks was awarded Player of the Match for her impact in defence.
