Prem hosted Grangetown today which based on their last meeting was going to be a closely fought contest. HNC were tasked to start strong. Having been slow out of the blocks last time we played GTown we needed a good 1st Q. They certainly did this!! Turning Grangetown`s CP we converted with ease and then dominantly proceeded to claim the next 3 goals. Cote looked confident through court and maintained the momentum for the remainder of the Q finishing 20 - 13 up. With the quality of Grangetown`s bench it was never going to be plain sailing. The 2nd Q started and Gtown came out all guns blazing. The connection between Kyra Jones and Ash Neal was slick and this paired with Grierson at WA proved hard to break down. Within 8 minutes Gtown had closed the gap and now the control was right back with the visitors. HNC made fewer turnovers and at times struggled to shut down the CP of Gtown. By HT the score had shifted and HNC found themselves down 28 - 35. With instructions to focus on 2nd phase HNC were able to claim turnover and start to break down Gtown. As HNC created more shooting opportunities we started to look more confident. Decision making improved and we managed to bring the score back to within 9 having at one point let it open up to 11. A big 4th Q was needed by Cote if they were going to see this game out. Having been in this situation before we knew it could be done. HNC started well with a quick 3 goal run. With continued tireless defence from the whole team, errors were forced, and the gap closed to 46-51. Gtown responded with their own 4 goal surge. HNC dug deep and yet again gained momentum. A confident finish from Paige Reed saw her take pressure shots which she nailed. As the clock ran down we kept pushing and applying pressure whilst remaining calm on our own possession. Although disappointing to finish 56 - 60 many positives can be taken. We started and ended strong and in control. Now to build on the middle part of our game to get consistency.
