An all Hucclecote Bateman final between Lightning & Thunder was always going to be closely contested.
With a 17 goal advantage, Thunder had the better start with Lightning only able to cut back the lead by 3 goals!
During the 2nd quarter, Lightning began to cut back the deficit & take control netting 15 goals to Thunders 3. Now at half time, only 2 goals adrift, Lightning felt the game was there for the taking. Thunder however had other ideas & refused to give in!
Bringing on fresh legs gave them re newed impetus, and although Lightning took the lead, they only led by 1 goal going into the final quarter 50-49.
Thunder dug deep, drawing level & taking the lead on 2 occaisions in the last 15 minutes. As the final whistle approached with scores level at 59 all, the Goalden Goal rule came into effect, with the next team to score taking the honours. Thunder had the chance to win it but it was Lightning who held their nerve & score the winning goal!
The game was played with great competitive spirit, demonstrating the depth of ability at Hucclecote!
