Regional 1

It was Hucclecote’s Regional 1 squad’s first game of the season and they took on Poole Aquarians at home and with a slightly different squad from last season. Regional 1 welcomed a young new shooter to the team, Erin who went on to prove her position in the team scoring 84% in her first game. Flo interlinked well with Erin and the pool defence found it hard to stop this young dominating shooting circle. Anna used her brain at WA and played some sensible netball finding some fantastic space to feed the ball into the circle. We welcomed Caroline back into the team at C and she interlinked well, you wouldn’t know she hadn’t played with us last season. Harry has made the step up from Regional 2 this season and she showed us why, she turning the ball though court at WD and offered support to the defensive circle of Kayleigh and Claire. The duos are back in the circle and they put the pool shooters under a lot of pressure.

Into the 2nd quarter Hucclecote carried on dominating the ball being played through court fast and efficiently to our shooters who converted fantastically and we were able to extend the lead further. In the 3rd quarter Michelle, who had made her debut at Premier level in the morning came in to GA to give Flo a rest and to see the partnership of her and Erin. The third quarter Poole seemed to step their game up and we started to back off allowing them to play the ball and them to get back into the game. We had fewer attempts at goal and we ended up losing the quarter.

In the final quarter Flo returned to GA, Caroline to WA, Harry to C and Anna went back to WD. Hucclecote knew if they wanted to keep the lead they couldn’t allow Pool to play the way they had in the 3rd quarter. Pool continued to dominate this quarter however Hucclecote dug deep and kept hold of their lead to go on and win the game. It was a game of two halves and Hucclecote deserved the win.

Thank you to Kate and Hayley for coming from Regional 2 onto our bench to help us out.

Player of the match voted my Hucclecote and Poole went to Erin on her debut; she showed strength against a physical defence and fantastic shooting accuracy.
