Hucclecote B 45 – Carole Anne 43
Carole Anne travelled to Oxstalls for our first meeting of the season. The first half of Q1 went goal for goal with neither team giving up their Centre pass. In order to get in front Hucclecote stepped up in defence and a crucial interception from Hayley Neate allowed Cote to take the ball to goal and edge a 1 goal lead. We then converted our next Centre gaining a 2 goal advantage. Score at the end of the first 15 mins 12 – 10. It was clear it was going to be a closely fought game.
Q2 and Carole Anne started well. Hucclecote were pushed with tight defending from the visitors. Every pass was pressured forcing Hucclecote to be patient on the attack. Great support from Captain Lucy Werrell allowed the attack to lay it back to the line eventually getting it into the shooters. The quarter ended with both teams scoring 9 goals apiece. Score line 21 – 19 to Hucclecote.
Half time changes saw Taryn Lawrence move from WA to C and Becky Vaughn came on at WA. This attacking partnership took the Carole Anne defence by surprise with their quick release and speed around the circle. We edged ahead by 5 goals but this was short lived as CA scored 3 quick goals on succession bringing them right back into contention. Excellent pressure on the CA shooter by Becky Campbell saw several balls forced over their attacking back line. Composure by Hucclecote through court allowed us to capitalise and score taking us ahead by 3. Score 32 – 29 to Cote.
A nail biting final quarter ensued. CA's circle defence really piled on the pressure exposing Kellie and Sarah to their toughest defence yet. Hucclecote attack at times struggled to find our shooters forcing the ball in only for it to be turned over. More mistakes and CA took the lead with accurate shooting from their GS who scored 11/12 of her shots. Hucclecote really dug deep and although at times frantic managed to claw back a level score. It was back to goal for goal. A solid defensive unit eventually cracked CA. An interception from Becky Campbell Was converted which took us 1 goal ahead. Another error from CA and we took it to goal. 2 goals up. Final score 45 – 43.
