Hucclecote B 61 v Almondsbury 46

Hucclecote were playing top of the league Almondsbury this week and were keen to keep on their winning streak. Having arrived at the venue we were soon to be told via text from the opposition that they had sent us to the wrong site of Clifton College and that we would have to travel a further 3 miles up the road to get to the correct place. A dirty tactic or a genuine mistake????? A mad rush across Clifton suspension bridge and eventually with only a few minutes to spare the team was on court warming up.

The first quarter was close with both teams displaying some quality netball. However Hucclecote edged the lead by 2 goals through the accurate shooting of Kellie Hull who netted 10/14 and Milly Price 4/5. Score after 1st 15 mins 14 12.

The second quarter was again a closely fought contest. The new defence combo of Hayley Neate and Lucy Werrell was tight and made Almondsbury work hard in attack. Great rebounds from Hayley were swiftly moved through court by our mid court of Thea Thomson, Taryn Lawrence and Kate Nicholls. End of 2nd Q we had stretched our lead by 4 goals 27 24 to Cote.

Half time changes saw Becky Deo back on at WD and HayleyNeate coming out to GD with Lucy W holding up the back. Hucclecote came out strong and totally outplayed their opposition. Almondsbury defence appeared to be caught on the back foot as our Shooters worked effortlessly getting the ball into the net. An impressive 15/17 for Kellie with Millydemonstrating graceful movement to lose her defender scoring 7/9 of her attempts. At our defensive end there were numerous tips and interceptions with Deo making impressive aerial leaps in the mid court to turn ball. All 8 of our turnovers were taken to goal. Cote had now secured a much deserved 19 goal advantage. Score 49 30.

Going into the final quarter Hucclecote were under strict instruction not to get complacent. However Almonsdbury had not given up and came out strong. They pressured every ball and began to force errors which they were able to convert. A quick succession of goals saw our lead reduce. However even though they won the last quarter 16 12 it wasn't enough to take the game. Final score 61 46 to Hucclecote taking themjoint top of the Table with Poole Hoppers.
