Plymouth Marjons 40 Hucclecote B 54
The first meeting of the season saw Hucclecote draw with Marjons. This time around Hucclecote were focused and determine to come away with a win.
Due to injury Hucclecote had a new line up with Sam Hogg and Pollyanna Banyard stepping up from Hurricanes. Also making her debut was Katherine Chadwick who recently moved from Old Chelt's.
For the first quarter Hucclecote were solid and ensured they maintained possession and kept the error rates low. Marjons matched us goal for goal with only one centre pass being taken from the home side. End of Q score 12 13 to Hucclecote and what looked to be another close fight.
Going into the second quarter Katherine Chadwick took to court at GD working well alongside Beckie Campbell at GK. Chadwick was relentless with her defending taking the oppositions GA (ex Cote player L Holbrook) out of the game only allowing her 1 shot on goal the whole quarter. Several turnovers were created and swiftly moved through court by Lucy Werrell (WD), Sam Hogg (WA) and Kate Nichols (C), who executed great feeds into the shooters. This was also demonstrated by Werrell who put some great long balls into Kellie Hull at GS. At half time Hucclecote had surged ahead by 10 goals. Score 19 29.
For the third quarter Pollyanna took the WA bib and slotted into RL2 with ease. Polly's court work, on and off the ball, caused problems for Marjon's WD . Hayley Neate continued the great work in defence and worked well with KC who had moved to GK. The girls remained focused throughout and finished the third quarter 12 up.
For the last 15 minutes Hucclecote continued to play with momentum and pace. As Marjons appeared to tire we stepped up and continued to push hard. Consistent shooting from Kellie Hull and Millie Price kept the score line increasing. The game ended at 40 54 to Hucclecote and a much deserved win for a team that showed cohesion and spirit throughout.
