Match report Hucclecote versus Oldham
The first away fixture against last years premier champions would always be a challenge. Oldham presented a mixture of familiar faces and youth in this years line up.
Hucclecote made a slow start but found their feet within the first 5 minutes of the first quarter, the score ran goal for goal until last few minutes of the quarter when Oldham found their rhythm and punished us for unforced errors and missed opportunities, with only one missed shot from 19 attempts in the first quarter.
Oldhams mid court controlled by Rachel Henry and Laura Malcolm, created a wall of pressure on every pass which resulted in numerous interceptions. ButHucclecote adapted well and made some creative passages of play, never yielding to the full court pressure. Hannah Jeavons had an excellent second quarter securing 9/10 shots at GA. The presence of GK Kerry Almond in the Oldham defence made life very difficult for the attacking players and shooters.
We went into the 3rd quarter 18-35 fresh legs were required, Kerry Walsh came on at WD and MichelleDowle came on at GS.
Hucclecote fought hard, showed renewed energy and patience we narrowly lost the third quarter 8-11.
The final quarter saw the return to the court of Catherine Turner at GA for Oldham who shot and feed their GSwith pinpoint precision. The work rate and commitment of the circle defence Jack Gabriel and Katherine Chadwick and Kerry Walsh at WD could not be faulted, but Oldham continued their relentless high conversion rate throughout the final quarter as well. We unfortunately lost the final quarter 7-19.
The final score was 33-66, not enough for a valuable point to reward our hard work. However lessons have been learnt, and our error rate reduced throughout the game, all of the squad took the court and we have taken key pints to carry forward in the rest of our premiership campaign.
