Hucclecote versus Leeds November 10th 2013
Jack Gabriel, Sam Perry, Katherine Chadwick, Kerry Walsh
Laura Smith, Neala Brennan, Hannah Jeavons
Michelle Dowle, Paige Reed, Jamilla Abbott
We made a shakey start but soon settled into the match which turned out to be a game of two halves. We conceded a number of goals in the first 5 minutes but the girls fought back and we found ourselves 9-13 down at quarter time.
However the team settled down and worked hard to take the ball to the circle edge and provide accurate feeds into the shooting circle. Our defensive unit worked tirelessly to pressurise the Leeds attack into uncharacteristic errors. At half time the score was 24-21 to Leeds.
We brought Katherine Chadwick on to GK and Sam Perry moved to GD, Jack Gabriel moved to WD. Laura smith moved to centre.
We fought hard and took control in the third quarter whilst Leeds made multiple changes including debuts for two of their import players from New Zealand. We drew the third quarter 9 all . We started the fourth quarter well but then the Leeds GA found her range and punished any errors we made. We were trialing throughout the quarter and with 3 minutes to go we were 6 goals down. Hucclecote found a new gear and made timely interceptions which were feed into the circle with pin point accuracy by Neala Brennan. We won the last quarter 12-10. Michelle Dowle GA had an outstanding game and not only by supporting her GS, Jamilla Abbott, but shot superbly with stats of 82%. Michelle was our player of the game, and despite our best efforts we ran out of time and narrowly lost to Leeds 38-39.
I believe that the result did not reflect the game, and although we lost it truly was a performance to be proud of, with our best shooting stats this season and a phenomenal 24 turnover. A great team effort.
Overall shooting stats 77%
Player of the match Michelle Dowle GA.
