Oldham travelled to us with a new look line up including Karen Greig  and Sara Hale, as many of  their regular players were on England duty.
Hucclecote made an impressive start taking an early advantage and scoring from our own centre passes. Oldham took a few minutes to adjust to the court markings and boundaries but soon found their rhythm. Hucclecote took an early  2 goal lead only to concede 5 goals on the trot. Sam Perry put Christa Enziano under pressure and with Katherine Chadwick stole valuable rebounds. The shooters worked well together and Gemma scored 100% of her shots on the first quarter. Q1 score 8-15
In the second quarter Oldham tightened up their defense throughout the court and forced us to make errors which depossessed us, and they seamlessly  transitioned from defence to attack. Their attack was driven by Rachel Henry. Kerry Walsh and Jack Gabriel  made multiple interceptions but Oldhams well prepared defensive  unit relentlessly turned over ball. Q2 score8-17
In the third quarter Laura smith came on to WA , Sarah Adams came on at WD, with Jack Gabriel moved to GK and Sam Perry to  GD. Oldham brought on Karen Greig at GS. The opening 5 minutes of the third quarter again we took control but Oldham recovered and took control back. The quick interchanges between Karen Greig and her feeders made life difficult for our circle defence but with increased pressure throughout the court and slowing the ball into the Oldham attack the circle defenders were able to disrupt the route to goal and rate of scoring.
Oldham continued to convert their possession with clinical accuracy.
Q3 score 8-16
In our quest to stay within half of Oldhams score, to secure a valuable point GS Paige Reed took the court and Gemma moved to GA. Laura Smith worked well with Gemma on the centre pass set up and feed both shooters with correctlt weighted passes and accuracy. This new combination gave us our closest quarter score with 10-11 and 100% shot conversion. This allowed us to secure a very valuable bonus point.
A mention must be made of the work rate and intensity of performance from Kerry Walsh who played 4 quarters at centre.

Many thanks to all the whole squad, management team, family and  supporters who came to our first home match of 2014.

Final score 34-59

Player of the match Gemma Gray.
