Plymouth Marjons 26  Hucclecote Stars 53

Stars travelled away to Plymouth for their first encounter of the season with Marjons. The first quarter started tentatively for Hucclecote who took the first 10 mins to get into their stride. Marjons defended tightly and looked to disrupt our flow. Paige Reed was dominant at GS netting 10 from 10.

Entering the second quarter Stars had a 4 goal lead. Rebecca Deo took to court at WD and marked well against a quick Marjons WA. Hucclecote stepped up a gear and  6 turnovers, by Katharine Chadwick and Claire Richards, assisted a well deserved 11 goal lead by half time.

Over the last two quarters Hucclecote continued to take control. Consistent play throughout enabled the team to build on their lead each quarter.  Marjons tried different strategies to break down our flow but Cote always responded with slick controlled netball. The defensive trio of Richards, Chadwick and Werrell were hard to penetrate with Marjons only scoring 5 goals then 6 in the last 2 quarters. Intelligent and precision feeds from Beth Webb and Anna Howells-Joll allowed Michelle Dowle and Paige to shoot consistently. This was complimented by the welcome addition of Kate Nicholls to the squad who linked impressively with Dowle around the circle edge.
