Both teams were missing key players in this Div1 Premier league match due to Super League commitments. Hucclecote took the court unsure who Team Bath would put out & even with some players not there, Bath had depth and had a squad of 12, whereas Hucclecote only had a bare squad.Team Bath started strongly taking an early lead and Hucclecote found themselves trailing by 4 goals after the first quarter. This lead was in part due to the excellent conversion rate by Baths shooters and error rate through court by Hucclecote. During the next 2 quarters Hucclecote tidied up their through court play, but still squandered possession which their defence turned over for them. In her first Premier league match 17 year old Christina Shaw really stepped up at GK combining well with the more established duo Katherine Chadwick & Jack Gabriel. This change, coupled with Laura Smith moving to C proved decisive as error rate improved, getting more ball through to Hucclecote's shooters. Both Eleanor Roberts in only her 2nd Premier match & Hannah Jeavons converted accurately and going into the final 15, Hucclecote had clawed back the deficit to only 1 goal! The final quarter was a nervous time for spectators as the goals went with c passes, with any error by either side being punished. In the final minute with the score level, Hucclecote took a vital intercept to win possession. With patience and the clock ticking down, they worked the ball to the circle edge for the feed into Roberts. In desperation the Bath defence contacted and as the final whistle went, a penalty was awarded! With a calmness that belied how she was feeling, Roberts stepped up and converted, so snatching victory by 1 goal! This match was not a show piece but from both teams view, the 5 points were vital! Team Bath to avoid going to play offs & for Hucclecote it keeps them in 4th place in the table with 5 matches remaining.
