Hucclecote Stars 50 v Plymouth Pilgrims 30
Stars started this game with a determination and pace that took Pilgrims totally by surprise. The attack were slick and fluid with Sarah Adams and Helen Werrell feeding shooting partners Betsy Willey and Michelle Dowle with ease. Stars forged a convincing lead 15 – 5
The second quarter continued in a similar fashion. New defensive duo Claire Richards and Sian Carrington were a force to be reckoned with. Both players collected rebounds which were offloaded quickly allowing Stars to demonstrate their outstanding through court play. End of quarter score 28-10.
Changes at half time saw a new mid court unit with Thea Thomson take the WD spot, Helen Hynes at WA and young talent Shona O'Dwyer at C. The team continued to dictate the game to Pilgrims although at times, due to unforced errors, we gave Pilgrims unnecessary possession.
Going into the last quarter Stars had a comfortable 43-19 lead. However this did not deter Pilgrims who game out with a determination that perhaps surprised Stars. Increased pressure from their circle defence Clift and Grainger saw our attempts on goal decrease to 9 from a previous 20 in the third quarter. Fortunately Stars had done enough in the previous quarters to secure the game but that didn't stop Pilgrims winning the final quarter 11-7.
