Hucclecote Comets v's Almonsbury
This encounter was the return match from one played very much earlier in the season, where Hucclecotehad suffered a large defeat (45 / 32) playing away from home.
With the comfort of playing in much more familiar surroundings at Chosen Hill School Churchdown, and with a slightly rearranged squad, Comets started the match with a confident flourish of goals and really showed Almonsbury that this time they meant business.
The defence trio of Rosanna Hurst, Jo Willey and Katie Noonan showed their teamwork and ability to turn ball, which the mid court soon delivered to the attacking force, who were growing in confidence every quarter.
This resulted in a 14 goal lead by the half way stage.
These goals proved crucial as the game went on, with Almonsbury bringing along such a large squad they had lots of fresh legs for the last 2 quarters but were unable to put a dent in this lead.
The game played out pretty much goal for goal with very few mistakes or misses in the shooting circle from either Jane Taylor or Laura Butler and care was taken to keep hold of the ball in the closing stages from Annabel Staley, Sam Hogg and Rebecca Vaughan, sealing a 55 / 41 victory.
This certainly turned the tables on Almonsbury and the whole squad enjoyed a good win.
The opposition voted Jane Taylor player of the match and the players player was Rebecca Vaughan.
Next week see Comets take on the mighty Titans from North Devon and they hope to turn the tide on them to!
