Another great win for Comets this week with an impressive score line of 55-37 against Jupiter from Bridgewater and recently promoted from Regional 3. Whilst the score line sounds convincing, it was a tricky match with a new squad facing a challenging style of play from the opposition; a well structured zone defence and an accurate overhead attacking game.
The first and third quarters were the most effective, leading by 8 and 6 goals respectively, where the team played with control and confidence throughout the court.
The defence trio of Ella Powell-Davies, Jo Hutchings and Rosanna Armstrong worked effectively intercepting lots of ariel balls into the tall GS, and managed to pick up lots of steals throughout the court.
The mid court of Emily Steer, Becky Vaughan and Emma Johnson broke down the zone defence effectively, once they learnt how to penetrate this style of defence, and fed the shooters, Jane Taylor and Brooke Vivien with ease. Once again, both shooters shot with confidence throughout the match.
It is very promising to see a new team winning games, yet all players expecting more of themselves and each other, which will hopefully convert into strong performances to challenge for the title this season.
