Hucclecote Comets vs Almondsbury (Home)

Saturday 10th October

This match was always going to be a tough fought contest, with a win and a loss last season we were well prepared for the challenge of this physically competitive team.

As predictedAlmondsbury got off to a strong start and were up by 3 in the first 5 minutes. As the quarter went on Comets found their feet and started to flow throughout the court coming back to level the score and go in to quarter time up by 1, despite a controversial score from the away team, after official time.

During the second quarter the defence started to apply a lot of pressure to an accurate Almondsbury shooting circle, coming out with tips and intercepts that were converted effortlessly by the shooters.

Heading into the third quarter feeling confident Comets had a lead of 6; 24-18. After a strong start Comets became complacent throughout the court, dropping off the intensity in both attack and defence with lots of errors through court. Typically, this coincided with a concerted effort from Almondsbury who closed the gap to within 3. Going into the final quarter whilst Comets had the lead the control of the game had shifted to the guests.

Comets headed into the final quarter of the game knowing they had a tough job ahead, but had the confidence with each other’s capabilities and worked tirelessly to regain control and play with composure, confidence and self-belief. They took the game by an impressive 13 goals, 48-35.
