After a long journey up to Hartlepool spirits seemed high for what was going to
be a tough encounter against the current top of the league side, Oaksway. Our
previous away record against this side is not great having lost every game but
always by a close margin. This made the game even more of a must win and the
team seemed fired up.
In the 1st quarter we settled quite quickly with the game going goal for goal.
However oaksway took a 9-4 lead towards the end of the quarter but with some
dominance in defence and some steady patient work in attack we managed to even
out the score 11-11 at the end of the 1st quarter. Oaksway shuffled their pack
in the 2nd quarter and both teams were turining over ball but struggling to
convert. Oaksway went into half time edging the lead by just 1 and all to play
for in the second half.
We made changes in the second half and the half started quite postively again
the game going goal for goal. There was excellent work rate in defence from
Gemma Fletcher which at time kept us in the game. The ball came through the
court well but again the attack struggled to capitalise on this.
With one quarter to go the score were still level at 31-31 with all still for. A patch in
the last quarter which could onl be named as 'dodgy' meant oaksway
gained a four goal advantage and we were fighting back for most of the last
quarter. Unfortunately the fight was not enough with Oaksway being victorious
with a score of 39-34.
There were positives to take from the game as we had never made that opposition
make so many mistakes and we came away with two points which will all count when
it comes to the end of the season.
