Hucclecote Dragons 22 v Poole Emeralds 23Hucclecote were so unlucky not to take the 5 points against Poole Emeralds in what proved to be an exciting game right through to the very end. Poole started strongly and took a commanding lead by 3 goals however Hucclecote`s shooting circle stepped it up to level scores at half time to 12 goals each. The third quarter was much the same as both teams contested some well fought netball. It was left to the last two minutes of the game as both teams put their hearts out on the court and although Hucclecote edged into the lead at one stage, with some great pressure from the back unit of Sanderson at GK, Meg Knight at GD and Alex Neilson at WD, and had further opportunity to take the ball to goal, the Dragons attack couldn`t cope with the pressure and instead of maintaining possession forced errors and missed crucial goals just when it mattered. This allowed Emeralds to sneak the win by just 1 goal although this was a much improved performance from their first encounter when Dragons lost by 4. Player of the match was awarded to Amy Cook for another stirling performance at Centre. Hucclecote Dragons 24 Poole Ferns 20After their earlier loss the Dragons re-focussed and took Poole by storm as they rallied away the goals with excellent shooting from both Katya Jennings and Alex Baird. Defensively, Megan Knight was on fire, stealing many clean interceptions which in turn helped set up the dragons to an 8-3 lead. One change saw Eva Andrews to WA, and although she worked tirelessly the Ferns defenders pressured the release and this enabled them to keep within the 5 goals from the earlier quarter. Pooles GA was in dominant form, and to counter act this, Gilly Salter Dragons Coach put Meg Knight to GK, and brought Alex Neilson to WD and returned Olivia Garrard back to WA. The back unit took time to settle, and this told with their error rate bringing the ball through court as they struggled to penetrate through to the end third. Poole did well to take this quarter to level the scores top 16 goals each. Reverting back to the starting line up, Dragons set the pace and with Alex Baird and Kataya Jenning firing the goals through the net, suddenly a rally of attacking movements saw them edge a head. A great effort to continue to stay ahead continued and they did brilliantly to secure a win, by 24 goals to 20 , thus reversing their last encounter when they lost 19-27! This squad certainly supported each other throughout, and with Megan Knight having an outstanding day, she gained Player of the Match for her high number of interceptions. The Dragons remain in 3rd place, only 1 and 2 points away from the top slot ! Thanks to the parents and carers who travelled to support, to Jo Knight and Pippa Carson for scoring and timing on the table, and to Jenny Carson for supporting on the bench and undertaking the timing during these critical games. Squad for both games: K. Jennings, A. Baird, J. Carson, O. Garrard, A, Cook, E. Andrews, M. Knight, A. Neilson, H. Sanderson (Capt), P. Gerrard, C. Trendle.
