Premier Romans 42 – Hucclecote 48
The Prem squad travelled to Bristol to play Prem Romans for Round 15 of Mizuno National Prem 2.
The last meeting saw a disappointing performance from Hucclecote so this time round was about getting it right. With both teams in contention for play offs it was sure to be a good game.
Hucclecote started strong taking their first CP to goal with relative ease. Romans responded off their own and it looked like it would be a goal for goal game. Laura Tildesley at WD and Sarah Adams at C applied great tactics when defending the centre pass. Alongside Flo Edwards at GD Romans had to work hard to get the ball to their circle. With possession gained by Cote we then successfully scored three on the bounce enabling a slight lead by the end of the quarter 12 – 15.
No changes were made going into the 2nd Q. Hucclecote looked strong and confident and kept the momentum of the game in their control. Initially it went goal for goal then Hucclecote really turned the screw. Feeds into GS Rosie Allison were accurate and with her strong holds and great circle work HNC took Romans for an 8 goal run. Romans, slightly shell shocked, failed to gain composure. At half time Cote led 18-28.
With the game far from won Hucclecote had done the hard work but could they keep control and not fall foul of a Romans comeback? With error rates creeping up Romans were able to respond with a 4 goal come back. A few held balls by HNC still gave Romans a door back into the game. Q3 score 29-35
The final 15 was all about scoring off our own CP and keeping our heads in the game. Momentum definitely swung in both team’s favour. As cracks opened in Romans play HNC were composed and played as a team. This strong mentality and discipline served them well closing out the game 42-48.
