Hucclecote Stars v’s Plymouth Pilgrims

New Stars Shine Bright As They Take To Court !

Hucclecote Stars 55 / Plymouth Pilgrims 41

With the postponement of the Bath encounter, the last time Hucclecote Stars played was a narrow defeat by one goal to Galmington netball club, which was still playing on the minds of the squad.  So with renewed vigour and a healthy youthful bench of players, Stars were ready for a return match against Plymouth Pilgrims.

The away fixture earlier in the season resulted in a final score of 48 / 27 to Hucclecote, but as with a lot of the teams in the Regional 1 league now into the second half of the season and plenty of games under their belt, score lines have been a lot tighter and Pilgrims hadn’t travelledover 2 hours up the M5 to be walked over !

With the Stars bench numbering 10, lots of options were available to coach Jenna Culley.  The new players gained were both in attack and defence, namely Brooke Vivian ,Laura Dixon and Izzy Robinson.

The first quarter Laura Dixon was to team up with Laura Stubbings in the defensive circle.  A real baptism of fire in Regional 1 play, as Plymouth piled on the pressure and with a very accurate goal shoot they edged a one goal lead, after the first 15. This was certainly a side, who meant business with a 10 / 9 score line no need to push any panic buttons yet, just more clinical play needed.

Quarter 2 saw one change made with Helen Werelltaking a breather and Elisha New slipping on the wing defence bib. The game was a great spectators game with few errors from both sides and goal for goal at pace.  Eventually though Hucclecote did manage to force Pilgrims into a few errors and these were capitalised on,gaining back the lead of the game, although very slim!

Emma Mckenzie and Helen Hynes kept the control of the mid court along with Elisha New all linking well to feed the shooting circle. A four goal lead was achieved by half time, so it was still anybodies game ! 24 / 20.

With young players on the bench itching to show their worth, coach Jenna Culley made a bold move for the 3rd quarter, changing around the team to incorporate the “New girls on the block”.

Izzy Robinson along with Brooke Vivian made their Regional 1 debuts. Izzy took the Goal Keeps bib resting up Laura Stubbings for about the first time this season!!!!, Brooke Vivian confidently took the goal shoot bibfrom Laura Butler and Helen Hynes took a well deserved breather, whilst Emma Mckenzie moved to wing attack.

All the players selected on court were capable of pulling together and that is exactly what they did with some great inter play and some very accurate shooting from Brooke Vivian.  By the end of the 3rd the lead had been stretched to 10 goals. Stars now were reaching for the skies!

Jenna Culley now knew she had a very capable squad, so a few small changes for the 4th and final quarter were made with confidence .

Helen Hynes took back to court at wing attack and Laura Stubbings replaced Laura Dixon who had played outstandingly for a first appearance at this level.

The 4th quarter saw Jane Taylor the reliable goal attack and game maker, link well with Brooke Vivian to pile on the goals and finish the game out, final score 55 /41 to Hucclecote.  A good game of netball fought hard and won well!

Player of the match was awarded to Brooke Vivian on her debut for such confident and accurate shooting.
