Hucclecote's victory against Team Bath saw them start slowly in the first quarter with a lack lustre 10 minutes allowing Bath to stay in contention goal for goal during this period. However, with captain Jane Hicks (ne Stringer) on top form, her dynamic speed work through court enabled her to pick up many turnovers, and during the latter part of the quarter, Hucclecote lifted up a gear. With Hallbrook netting a superb 10/11 goals, they went into the 2nd period 13-6 up.
Hicks certainly demonstrated her experience and took total control throughout, and the unit with Barret at GK and Sarah Lee at WD certainly enabled Hucclecote to keep the defensive pressure on.
Meanwhile, in attack, Taylor moved to WA and Joll came on at GA, with Joll particularly laying off some great passing into shooter Hallbrook where again she netted 9/10 putting on a great performance. A half time score of 26-12 was reflective of some of the errors that Hucclecote had made as they should have zoomed ahead at this stage. Umpires Nikki Lloyd and Dave Stringer kept the game at a good pace and both took strong control.
The third quarter saw many changes throughout the squad giving everyone the chance to play and share game. This showed in the 3 quarter score of 36 goals to 20, where Bath took advantage whilst Hucclecote settled although at times, their shooters found the distance and hand on the ball a bit off putting.
The final 15 minutes saw Hallbrook and Joll back on as the shooting duo, and with Rose Morgan Smith now at C and Iffil at WA , the speed and perfect timing of the long ball to corners, paid dividends as the quick release volley left Bath defence standing at times.
With their Captain in awesome form today, Hucclecote stormed the last 15 taking the score to 54-25 at the final whistle.
Another great performance demonstrating the versatility and determination of the squad leaving them clear leaders at the top. Thanks to scorer Mrs Sue Lee for once again stepping in to support the bench.
