Hucclecote took a stylish victory against Lawn from Swindon 43-18 although the result does not show the determination that their local rivals put into the game.
With Lawn winning the first centre pass it was Kerry Walsh (the birthday girl) who took the first steal on the blow of the first whistle and this set the pace for the game with Hucclecote taking an early lead 6-0 before the Swindon team found room to score. Hucclecote's defence unit played solidly turning huge amounts of ball, although hucclecote shooters didnt take as much advantage as they normally do, scoring only 8/18 shots in the quarter 40% during this period. However with Sarah Lee in dynamic form during this 15 as well , taking 3 clean intercepts, allowed Hucclecote to stay ahead.
Michelle Dowle replaced Hallbrook at GS , having been promoted due to the injured Anna Joll. Having never played at this level this season, Dowle showed confidence and helped to settle the nerves in the circle scoring 6/6 during this period. With Rose Morgan Smith also on at WA, some well timed and precision feeds helped Hucclecote to take 19-10 lead at half time. Both umpires, Judith Groves and David Stringer controlled well, helping keep the speed of the game consistent.
Defensively Hucclecote were awesome with Barrett taking steals and rebounds working well with Captain Jane Hicks, and with Walsh continuing to pressurise too, Lawn had few too options to feed into their shooting circle.
The 3rd quarter saw Hallbrook back on with the emphasis to dominate and put the first time shot up and with Iffil coming back on to Centre, allowing the centre court to rotate, this quarter saw Hucclecote take the game to a new level scoring 13 goals to Lawn's 3.
The final 15 saw Lee back to WD resting Walsh and with the game secured, Hucclecote continued to increase their lead taking a stunning victory by 43 goals to 18. This was a great performance by Hucclecote who made some great decisions throughout never rushing the offer.
Thanks must go to Claire Richards and Michelle Dowle for both stepping up to offer their services with a squad recovering from injuries. Also thanks to Sue Lee and Sue Wainwright for their support and help as official scorer and team manager.
