U.14 Dragons 21 v Team Bath Cougars 10

Hucclecote U.14 Dragons travelled the long distance to Plymouth to play  3 games in one day.  The first game up was against Team Bath Cougars and in a previous encounter Dragons were on the losing end.  Sundays performance however saw the young Panthers really step up,  and with shooters Violet Little-Wollage & Rose Dillon being well supplied by Stella Harper and Nadine Baird, Dragons after a nervous start,  began to convert with ease pulling away 10-6 at half time.

During the second half Captain Ellie Gabriel combined well with Harriet Taylor in the defensive circle denying the Cougars GA to dominate and this led to even more opportunities with Dragons pulling away to win comfortably 21 goals to 10 with all squad members getting court time. Maddy Palmer , Ella Halpin and Daniel Crucickshank all did well taking the court during the second half.

The next game up saw them take on last years Regional Winners and National Finalists Poole. Poole looked mature in their style of play  and were very well drilled.  Hucclecote worked hard but failed to impact as Poole dominated from start to finish taking a huge victory 38 goals to 7.  Dragons however did end with a positive last quarter with Nadine Baird scoring 4 from 4.  With a quick debrief it wasn`t long before they were back on court for their last fixture against Exeter. Dragons started really well and attempts to goal were plenty although the Hucclecote shooters consistency dropped in the first quarter netting only 4 from 10.  Persisting and with the same line up as attack  to goal was slick, Dragons began to edge ahead and with Rose Dillon netting 4 from 4, Hucclecote took the lead 12-10 at half time.  With the unit up front all moved up a position, this allowed for Ella Halpin to take on the centre role and this she did well.  With the back unit of Gabriel and Taylor pressing hard, Hucclecote ran away with the lead and took the victory 28 goals to 16 with Nadine Baird and Rose Dillon proving unstoppable up front.

Whilst Poole look firm favourites hitting big score lines against all opposition, Dragons showed great potential over the day and could easily press for a top 4 placing which would enable them to go to Regional Finals. The whole squad showed great respect and were well supported by parents and volunteers on the day.  Thanks to umpire Janet Stephen for stepping into umpire.
