A brand new U16 Flames line out were excited to display their talent in the first tournament of the netball year. With selection for the team only being finalised on Friday night, the 10 strong squad were united in their aim to do Hucclecote Netball Club proud.

The opening game against Glocs Ladies Blue didn’t disappoint, with the final score 20-1 in Flames’ favour. This result set the bar for the following matches, with Flames victorious in the other 4 group matches: 18-1 V Cheltenham Harriers, 22-3 V Stroud Eagles, 30-0 V Stroud Falcons & 32-0 V Cirencester Phoenix.

As winners of our group, we faced Cheltenham Falcons in the semi finals, knowing that whoever won the game would have a place in the South West Regional league, with the prospect of potentially gaining a place at U16 national finals – therefore, all to play for!

Flames conceded the first goal which unsettled a few nerves, but the united team effort didn’t waver and Flames went ahead 4-3 at half time. Performance flowed and nerves settled in the 2nd half, taking the final score to 10-4, having only conceded 1 goal in the 2nd half.

The squad were very excited knowing they had already secured a place in the regional league, however the very delicate matter of facing our sister team “Hucclecote Panthers” in the final had to be addressed first.

A contested 1st half ended in Flames’ favour 10-3, and an equally slick 2nd half performance resulted in the final score of 19-7, with Flames victorious!

I am happy to report all 10 players in the squad played in every game in different combinations. I am excited at the interchangeability and versatility of this squad. All combinations worked and every player had an amazing tournament.

Thank you all for your efforts and a huge “Well Done” to each one of you! Very much deserved. Now the hard work begins.....

Thank you to all the parents for your support and getting the girls to the venue on time.
