Hucclecote U.16 Panthers met Old Chelts in their final game of the first half of the season before the Christmas break.  Whilst they started slowly, only taking the first quarter by 10 goals to 6, they certain hit back hard in the second phase of the game to make up for this.  Defensively Tiara Cowley, Meg Knight and Amy Cook turned 7 clean interceptions between them and put Old Chelts attack under huge pressure. Meanwhile, at the other end, Jen Carson on at GA, linked brilliantly with her attack, and Olivia Garrard found Katya Jennings with ease on the feeds enabling Panthers to storm to a huge 15-1 score line in this period of play. Jennings proved unstoppable during this phase. The half time score of 25-7 demonstrated just how strong this squad are. The second half saw Panthers really lift their game, and with Connie Trendle on at WD marking tightly, this pressured Chelts further who were forced into error allowing Cowley and Katy Kalup to continue to steal the ball leading to a 36-11 score at 3/4 time. For the final quarter,  Jennings came off, and Captain Paige Baker moved to GS and took on the dominant shooting role with Carson back to GA to support her.  Baker did well netting 9/9 (100%) during this phase. With Meg Knight back to WD Panthers kept the pressure on and with Olivia Garrard at WA making no mistakes feeding superbly throughout, Panthers ran out easy winners 47-13.  Player of the match was awarded  to Olivia Garrard for her drive and vision throughout the game.

This was a fabulous performance and demonstrates the strength and depth within the squad and is certainly encouraging with 8 of these players still able to represent U.16 age group again next season.  As clear leaders of the Gloucestershire U.16 Division One, Panthers campaign will continue in the new year where they hope to continue their winning ways and lift the GCNA Trophy.

Thanks to parents and supporters and to the two neutral umpires Simon and Julie who did a great job on the day.
