Hucclecote 49 v Grangetown 22

Prem’s first game of the season was up against newly promoted Grangetown. With a full squad Cote looked strong from the outset and quickly forged a good lead. The tried and tested attacking combo of Rosie Allison, Thea Thompson, Shona O’Dwyer and Sarah Adams started well with Thea shooting at 100%. With the return of Sam Cook in defence Grangetown had to work hard to find their shooters. Ella Powell –Davies and Lauren Brookes completed the unit and all played with great intensity.

We entered the 2nd quarter 14 – 7. Changes made at the back saw Cook at GD and Ella P-D to GK. The interceptions continued and HNC finished the quarter up 23 to 11.

With changes made at half time Becky Tildesley and Yas Hodge-England went to GS and GA. Kellie Hull entered at GK and Laura Tildesley at WD. The new combinations settled and continued to build on Hucclecotes already established lead. With gaps opening in Grangetowns defence even Miss Cook decided to put some feeds into the circle!

The last quarter enabled more changes with Laura T taking up the WA position and Ella P-D back on at WD. The squad adapted well to all the changes made by the bench and showed exactly how versatile each player is. The final score was 49-22 with an impressive 17 – 6 quarter score. A good starting performance for Hucclecote and confirms the strength and depth this squad have.
