Panthers Match Report

For the first time 2 Hucclecote teams were allowed to compete in the regional seeding tournament.

Panthers, who were runners up to their own Dragons in the Gloucester tournament, had high hopes of qualifying for Regional league 1.

After the long journey to Paignton on Sunday their first match on court was against Raychem from Swindon which they won convincingly 20-10. Their next 2 games followed the same pattern with a 19-5 win over Galmington then a 20 goals to 5 victory over Penzance.

The final match of the day was against Poole, a squad that had been together for a few years & were also unbeaten.

Both teams knew that a victory meant automatic entry into Regional league 1.

Hucclecote Dragons had already qualified having won all their 4 matches.

Although Panthers took the court confidently, they knew this was going to be their toughest challenge of the day.

Poole were very well drilled & converted at every opportunity. At half time they had established a 7 goal lead. Poole were by far the more controlled & drilled team & they quickly pulled away to win the match 26-9. Panthers were a little shocked by the result but finishing 2nd in the group was enough to gain a place in regional league 1.

It was a great squad performance, certainly until the last match, which has earned Panthers a well -deserved place in Regional league 1 along with Hucclecote Dragons.
