Hurricane Lightning hung on to record a great win over 2nd placed Rednock Raiders by 4 goals.
They started strongly taking the first quarter 12 goals to 7, mainly due to the impressive number of interceptions made by the defence trio. Helen Werrell at WD, Anna Toms at GK, in her debut match & by Lucy Werrell her partner in the circle.
Emma Mc Kensie at Centre put some precision feeds into Shooter Wendy Burgess & with capt Kat Honeywill linking well with Pollyanna Banyard, Hucclecote took an early 5 goal lead.
Lauren Brooks was introduced onto the WD, also making her debut in Div.1, having been promoted from Tornadoes in Div.5. Lauren is one of Hucclecotes very talented U15 group, who has just heard she has made it through to final screening for Eng U17. Lauren played with confidence, using her height advantage to pressurise her opponent.
Rednock came back strongly in this quarter closing the gap to within 1 goal by half time.
Werrell moved to Centre & Stella Ben Hania came on into the shooting circle to join Banyard. With Ben Hania offering a different style of play, creating space for her shooting partner, Banyard took on the shooting role netting 10 from 12 attempts. Hucclecote consolidated their narrow lead to lead by 5 goals at 3/4 time. Increasing pressure on Banyard however began to have an effect so for the final 15mins, Lightnings lineup reverted to the original one.
Rednock were reduced to 6 players due to an injury & with no sub, played the remainder of the game 1 short. Hucclecote didn't really capitalise on this, but still held on to win a thoroughly deserved win by 4 goals. This result puts Lightning in a strong position to contend for the runner up slot in Div.1
