Reg Comets 34 Team Bath 47

It was a very depleted Comets that travelled to Bath for the 2nd fixture of the season. With 7 players out with injury/ unavailability it was a hastily pulled together squad, calling on players from Hurricanes, a past player & one retiree!
Bath made a strong start netting 14/16 while new to this level Sophia Winfield & Hannah Moursi struggled to find their form converting 5 from 15.
Past HNC player Hannah Faulkner teamed up in defence with Ellie Gabriel, also in her first Regional game. They worked tirelessly making a number of turnovers, but  the Bath shooters were both in cracking form.
Ellen Morgan at C attacked with flair through court supported by Alex Baird & Natasha Englefield also making her debut & WD.
In an attempt to upset the rhythm of the Bath shooters- veteran Jack Gabriel came on at Gk teaming up with her daughter Ellie in the circle. This change along with the shooters switching positions allowed Comets to take the Q by a goal. Sophia Winfield began to slot her shots away more confidently converting 8/9.
Half time Comets had closed to only 8 down, 17-25.
Nadine Baird coming on at WD also in only her 2nd start at this level, had an immediate effect forcing 4 turnovers. With Gabriel’s experience in the circle Bath were restricted to only 9 attempts at goal to Comets 17 in the 3rdQ but were still 9 adrift at 3/4 time.
The final Q saw Bath just stretch their lead slightly to finish 47-34.
Although Comets came away with a loss, it was an encouraging display from a lean squad, many who had not played at this level before.
