Hucclecote Prem produced an awesome display of netball today which included two youngsters, Lauren Brooks and Flo Edwards being elevated to join the bench.  With Sarah Lee and Kerry Walsh still both out recovering, it was great to see them both supporting.   Hucclecote started at an electric pace which saw shooters Allison and Beveridge find space with ease converting shot after shot.  The defending end were also fired up and with Barrett communicating and working the unit well from the outset, helped team mates Jackie Gabriel GD and Sam Cook WD close down the visitors options.  In addition Becky Hemming WA and Anna Mayes showed lightening pace through court with some great feeding on display.  The first quarter reflected this with Hucclecote taking a 17 -3 goal lead.

The second quarter saw Gray on to GA and Baxter to WA where they produced some lovely one touch netball with Gray using her speed well.  The Downs also made changes in their defensive end and this initially slowed down Hucclecote's scoring rate initially , until they adjusted and powered on again.  Mayes gave an outstanding contribution which earned her player of the match and put in some wonderfully timed long range feeds and with Gray's consistency on song,  helped to take Hucclecote to a 32-10 lead at half time.

Coach Gilly Salter saw this score-line as an opportunity to bring on youngster Lauren Brooks to WD for the third quarter.  Brooks looked confident taking the court and backed this up with 2 clean intercepts and some great drives and quick release balls through to attack. With the shooting trio changed once more with Beveridge to GS working with Gray at GA and Baxter at WA, Hucclecote continued to dominate.  Captain Jackie Gabriel playing in only her 2nd match back after a long lay off really added strength & experience ensuring her unit only allowed 7 goals in during this time.

Leading 43-17 going into the final 15, the attacking end reverted to their original line up demonstrating some great re-offering and give and go netball.  With Cook moved to GK and Baxter on to WD this gave an opportunity for the squad to re-align and look at different options.  The Downs in fairness never gave up and worked consistently hard throughout and during this period netted the most goals scoring 10 in this time.  However with Hucclecotes shooting prowess and dominant defending the Downs were never going to close the gap and Hucclecote clearly deserved the exciting victory  taking the final score to 58 goals to 27.
