Hucclecote 37 - Exeter 31
Hucclecote started off the game positively moving into a six goal lead and shaking off the cobwebs of half term and having not had a game for 3 weeks. They looked slick in the attack and moved the ball through the court with speed and accuracy. Towards the end of the quarter however, a few basic personal errors crept in allowing Exeter back into the game for a 12-10 lead at quarter time.
Jane Hicks came back into the line up in the second quarter having had some time off with a knee injury. What an impact she made, settling the team, and as in the first quarter Hucclecote continued to dominate the Exeter attack with Caroline Hughes, Claire Richards and Jane all turning over the ball. Hucclecote had to work hard in the attack under presssure from the Exeter defence, Harriet Pratten and Michaela Ifill had to work hard to get the balls int o the shooting circle. Continued pressure from the Hucclecote players saw them finish the first half with a 5 goal lead, 23-18
The third quarter saw the match go goal for goal, Caroline Bedford came on the WA and immediately helped the shooting circle of Anna Joll and Michelle Dowle become more dominate in the attacking circle, unfortunately not always finishing off the movement with a goal, Hucclecote still felt a dominance on court. The third quarter saw the score at 30-26 to Hucclecote.
The last quarter was do or die, Exeter came out strong knowing that the win was capable for both teams, at first Hucclecote went up 2-0 in the quarter only to be pulled back by the ever determined Exeter team. Hucclecote were determined to see this game through but a resurgent Exeter pulled back to 2 goals in it at 31-29. Then it came two consecutive interceptions by Jane Hicks and some fast flowing netball and Hucclecote pulled away to win 37-31, more pleasing was stopping Exeter gain the extra point for a result within 5. A good win against another mid table team.
