Hurricanes V’s United Eagles

Hurricanes had a new line up today, with both ends working in units they had never practiced with before, in the defence end it saw L. Brooks playing her first came for Hurricanes at GD and K.Bignell playing in at GK.  These two read off each other very well, picking up balls throughout the game in the shooting circle.  At the shooting end it saw L.Hollbrook playing her first game for hurricanes having moved up from lightning squad along with C. Olley in shooting as well.

Hurricanes didn’t let this new line up phase them, and went out from the start showing exactly why they are top of division one, with some great play up the court.  Unfortunately near the end of the first quarter Kate Nicholls went off having falling over on her ankle, causing A.Brown to be moved into the centre and R.Aston being moved into the attacking end from WD.  L. Werrell came on at WD just coming back from injury to have an amazing game.  Finishing the first quarter 10-3.

The second quarter saw the two shooters swapping over, bringing Lydia out on court at GA.  In this quarter defence worked brilliantly taking interceptions and rebounds in the circle with ease, keeping United score line below 10 goals.  The end of the 2nd quarter saw hurricanes finishing 24-9.

Hurricanes continued this play in the 3rd quarter, however there was a number of errors in the quarter with footwork’s and poor passes, but the defence pulled it back for us making some good timed interceptions.  Attacking play was superb, and the next player read off the play before making some great passes down the court from defence to the attacking circle with ease, straight line play just like Liz wanted from us.  Arnie and Rachel managed to find the shooters, giving many first time balls in the circle, and the consistency of shooting was good from both Lydia and Charlotte.  Finished 3rd quarter 44-14.

Hurricanes kept their game high for the last quarter even with the strong lead that they had achieved.  Defence with Kerry, Lauren and Lucy was brilliant, and they managed to keep united score below 20, preventing them from gaining a point from the game.  Some good triangle work around the shooting circle worked well and both Arnie and Rachel were in the right place to back up the shooters when needed, as well as them backing up each other and making some quick thinking pops between themselves throughout the game.  Final score of the match was 60-19.

Fantastic game girls, now we got to stick together as a team for our tough match next week.  Hope you get better Kate as we will need you back
