Hucclecote edge on to beat Top League Team Lawn

Hucclecote's determination and grit, enabled them to edge home the winners after just about hanging by the skin of their teeth even when under immense pressure, taking the game 31-29 in their favour.

The first quarter saw the return of Carly Taylor and Kerry Walsh from illness and Rosie Barret back in at GK after her recent promotion to Premier Status.  During this period, and with Clair Richards playing out of position but doing well at WD, both teams went goal for goal leaving the score at level pegging. The 2nd quarter , Gemma Hallbrooks consistency returned with a conversion rate of 90% during this period, helped to take Hucclecote 3 goals ahead at the half time break.

Hannah Faulkner, on at WA for the second half, combined well with Micheala Iffil C and Rachel Aston at GA, and all 3 tried hard to retain the ball in attack, something that they have been working on at training.  At the other end of the court, the defence unit of Captain Jane Stringer at GD, Kerry Walsh WD and Barrett at GK impressed hugely during this 15 minutes, forcing 7 clear turnovers, and put Lawns' attacking end of shooters under severe pressure.  This led to Hucclecote taking a 6 goal lead with 15 minutes to go.

The final 15 minutes had spectators on their seats, and playing at Lawn's new home venue, Lawn were not going to give in easily.  Their asertive play saw them hit hard scoring 4 goals on the run without answer and they eventually closed the score to a draw.

Captain Jane Stringer was inspiring throughout but particularly dominant during this phase and combined with several steals from within her defence unit, Hucclecote kept turning ball after ball, but struggled in places to convert to goal.  However, with Gemma Hallbrook again shooting 100% in this quarter, and Carly Taylor converting 75% of her shots, it was a welcome relief when the final whistle blew giving Hucclecote victory 31-29.  This was a well deserved victory against the top of the table leaders.
