Having only lost this game narrowly first time round, Storm knew this was a game they could take.

They were up against it though with Gemma Lott out injured & Laura Wilks & Becky Mogg unavailable, meant they only had the bare 7 players.

Storm started in dominant form, taking an early 3 goal lead with some great shooting in that first quarter from Maise Simmonds 9/11 & Stella Ben Hania 7/8.

Kat Honeywill on "loan" from Lightning had a great game taking over the feeding of the shooters role, normally controlled so well by Lott & Mogg.

Survivors struggled to cope with the height advantage of Simmonds in the circle & with Ben Hania finding her too, it looked likely that Storm would continue to dominate.

Chrissie Jackson & Lydia Jones in the defence were in sparkling form tipping & re bounding.

Then catastrophe, Lydia Jones moving backwards for an interception, lost her footing turning the same ankle she has been out with for 3 months previously!

With the bare 7, they were not a great deal of options, so Emily David, herself carrying a muscle strain, moved into the circle defence & play resumed with Storm a player less.

Mid court, Mia Aylett & Honeywill worked tirelessly to compensate for the missing player, and indeed they held onto their lead till half time.

Eventually though, Survivors took full advantage of the extra player & began to edge ahead. By the final 15 mins, tiredness began to creep into Storms game & they were unable to even retain their own ball.

It was such a disappointment for the Storm players, apart from Lydias injury, ( who has everyones sympathy) a victory was definitely within their grasp.
