September 26th - Hucclecote Vs Plymouth Marjons
With a long drive and a little wait before we got on court, the squad were relaxed enough to go out and start the game with purpose.
With Hayley coaching the regional B squad this week, the orders were to go out and pressurize the ball from the word go, all players were keen for an early lead. However it took the team a while to settle and with heavy pressure from Marjons defense the attack were finding it hard to find the shooters, which meant Marjons took an early lead of 7 -11.
With changes made in attack the team began to find space, within the attacking circle. With every defensive turnover that was taken being utilized, all players started to calm and really understand the high intensity that was needed to win this game. The changes were vital to the teams moral and we began to play OUR netball. Which showed in the half time score 19 - 22.
With tiredness being expressed throughout the squad a change to the current defense had to be made. Due to this and the continuous pressure being applied all the way through the court we were within 1 all quarter, even taking the lead at one stage, however Plymouth kept coming at us & pulled away by 2 just at the end ending the third still behind by 2, 32 - 30, but with every intention of going into the last quarter fighting.
This however was the quarter where fitness played its toll & with both squads having an average young age, neither were about to give up easily. As the quarter started Hucclecote stepped off the gas Marjons netted 5 in a row. However we never gave up and narrowly missed out on our first win by just 3 goals, 40 - 37.
This was a good second game for this newly formed team and we went away feeling as though bonds are starting to form and things can only go up from here.
Player of the match was awarded to Arnie Brown, who's endless defending & interceptions gave the team confidence & determination to fight until the very end
