With 4 teams competing in the quarter finals, we were confident that we would have teams in the semi's.
Hurricanes were conceded to late this morning by Old Chelts 6 so walk directly into the Per Ardua semi's!
The first match of the day was Storm v Stroud Ladies B. With a deficit of 15 goals to make up, Storm had their work cut out. The first quarter went well with Lily Simmonds & Sam Hogg scoring consistently. Early in the 2nd quarter a nasty injury to centre Becky Mogg, which required an ambulance, unsettled Storm's play, with unforced errors creeping into their game. With Beth Perry coming into the defence circle & Capt Eleri Sewell reverting back to GD, the Stroud shooters were put under pressure. Mid court players, Ella Gardner, Hannah Jones & Fran Preedy moved the ball well through court, with some precision feeds by Preedy into shooter Simmonds.
During the 2nd half, Storm began to dominate with the result looking safe & Storm ran out worthy winners by 15 goals, 80 - 65.
Hucclecote Tornadoes, who have dominated Div 5 all season, found themselves with a tough encounter against Div 3 Old Chelts. During the first 15mins Chelts cut the deficit by 6 goals, even though Capt Rachel Barber & Millie Price were scoring fairly consistently. The 2nd quarter saw Tornadoes settle & play their best, holding Chelts to a draw. Lauren Brooks moving to GD to support Fliss Phillips in the circle against an extremley tall Chelts shooter, paid dividends.
Holly Walker played strongly in the middle, & with Lydia Jones & Emma Butterworth on the wings,Tornadoes again held their own. With Rosie Johnson re taking the court Tornadoes hung on to win by 4 goals in a nail biting finish.
Thunder play their match with Randwick on Tuesday at 8.00pm at Bentham to complete the round.
