21 February 2011 - Flo Edwards selected to go to England European Championships in March

Hucclecote Netball Club continues to produce star athletes. Not only is their top squad currently 1st in the Premier Division but two of their younger players, Lauren Brooks and Flo Edwards, have been selected to play for England U.17’s at the European Championships later this month.

From the age of 12 both players have been watched by England Talent Scouts.  Starting within the Gloucestershire Talent & Performance Centre they progressed quickly, helping the U.14, U.15 and U.16 Hucclecote teams to the National Finals in 3 consecutive years.

Lauren currently plays for Hucclecote in the Premier League and Flo plays pre-dominantly in the competitive Regional League that sits just below Premier.  Lauren and Flo were invited to join the England Regional Excel Programme for talented athletes last season. This programme brings together the most talented athletes in the South West and gave further opportunity for them to be screened for a place in Bath’s very own National Talent League.

At Regional Excel Screening last summer, Lauren was selected and invited to attend England Excel U.17 Age Group Training. With only 20 places up for grabs, Lauren succeeded in being named as one of the top 20 athletes in the England U.17 Squad.  Lauren then gained selection into the final 12 to play for England in Ireland at the European Championships against Ireland, Scotland, Wales & Gibraltar.

‘I am so excited about the 4 days in Dublin as it draws closer. I know this week will drag by at college because most of my thoughts are about playing for England. My mum, dad, eldest sister and her boyfriend are all coming to watch the matches. I feel so proud. Thank you Hucclecote’

In addition, Flo Edwards who made her first debut for Hucclecote Premier last Sunday, has now been pulled in to join England’s U.17 Squad following attendance to an England Camp back in December.   Flo Edwards, a Dean Close School student, is one that has been closely monitored by scouts and selectors as her progress this season has made her one to watch.   She will now be joining Lauren at the England European Championships this month.

Flo says ‘it came a bit out of the blue, being asked to attend the December trials. I am now counting down the days until I get that dress on!’
