WEEKLY ROUND UP – Feb 1st/2nd
A mammouth trip to Hartlepool for the Premier squad was rewarded with a narrow victory over Oaksway 41-38. Travelling up the night before paid dividends, as the team took the first quarter by a single goal. With the home team advantage, Oaksway refused to allowHucclecote to take control and extend their slim lead. The score wasllevel at 29 all going into the final quarter. A couple of crucial turnovers in the final minutes gave Hucclecote the advantage and edge into the lead. This was a massive victory for Hucclecote having not beaten Oaksway away for over 4 years and consolidates their position in 5th place in Premier Div 1.
Regional Stars had an emphatic win over Almondsbury 75 -41 continuing their dominance in the Regional league. Comets meanwhile slipped to a narrow defeat at the hands of Weston 47-52 whose Goal shooter was in outstanding form.
In the local league, Hucclecote Hurricanes were in control from the outset in their top of the table clash with Gloucester Ladies A. This` result, 46-39 confirms Hurricanes position as league leaders in Prem1.
Hucclecote Lightning slipped to a disappointing 2 goal loss to Cirencester after a good performance for much of the game.
Hucclecote Storm had a great win over Cheltenham Ladies 54-32 and moves them up the table out of the relegation zone!
Tornadoes playing Barnett Waddingham in Div 2 couldn’t maintain their form to secure a win, going down 47-54.
Hucclecote U 16’s playing Saints from Cornwall in the Regional League had the game snatched from them in the final minutes losing40-42. This was Hucclecotes first loss in the Regional league and now have it all to play for against Bath this Sunday at Cheltenham College.
Hucclecotes U 14’s were also in action in the Bentham Junior league, with both teams having victories over Randwick.
Talented U14 youngster Jane Taylor has just been selected to play in an Invitational tournament at Netball Europe in March, representing the South West Region. The week end in the new Worcester Arenawill see her compete against Wales and Scotland.
