Glos league round up- week 6
Hurricanes took on an under strength Upton & dominated from the outset. Even with 3 new players in the squad, Hurricanes played with flair & speed. U16 Hannah Howl in her first game at this level looked totally at ease turning ball & rebounding along with co defender Mouse.
At the other end Michelle Dowle & Anna Stephens combined well in the shooting circle. With Michelle netting 56/62 attempts, Upton found it difficult to stem the flow of goals. The final score of 70-25 was a reflection of Hurricanes dominance.
Lightning a little depleted took on Randwick in a closely contested game. Randwick started the stronger & Lightning found themselves 7 goals down. With both shooters taking more control in the circle they clawed back 3 goals by half time. Elle Gabriel in her first Premier league match worked tirelessly with Abi Tucker turning numerous ball between them. Going into the final 1/4 only 1 goal down, it was a nail biting 15 minutes with goals going with C pass. The final result of 33-33 was a real credit to Lightning as they had fought from being down throughout the game.
Storms opposition was Cheltenham ladies who were near the top of the table. Again with injuries, unavailability & players playing up a team, Storm were a little depleted. Undeterred, Storm played with determination & stayed with Chelt ladies throughout the game. Defence duo, Eve Saunders & Connie Trendle worked tirelessly to cut out the fees to a really tall shooter who converted with ease. Youngster Rose Dillon making her adult league debut had a great game in the shooting circle, joining with her U16 team mate Nadine Baird. Both shot well & through determination against a physical defence, clung on to only lose by 1 goal. Overall it was a fantastic performance from this young squad, against a rather physical old players. Final score 40-41.
