27 January 2018 - Round up,
This week so nearly saw
This week so nearly saw a clean sweep of wins for our teams.
First match of the day Storm v Churchdown, a match that was narrowly lost by 4 goals last time.
The first half was evenly contested  with great conversion rate by Nadine Baird ( 15/17) and
Sam Taylor ( 10/10) giving Storm a 1 goal lead at half time.
During the 3rd Q, Storm were unable to cut out the ball into the Churchdown circle & with their shooters finding their form, they edged into a 2 goal lead with 15 mins to go.
There were turnovers but equally possession was squandered & even though Storm took the final Q by 1 goal it was the narrowest of losses by 1 - 47-48. Another minute on the clock & Storm would have snatched a draw.
Player of the match Nadine Baird

Next up was Hurricanes who were determined to put right the draw first time round with Gloucester Ladies. With a full squad of 10, it was to their advantage to have fresh legs each Q.
Nic Jennings @ GS was outstanding netting 52 of the final score of 68 ( even though she took 2 or 3 attempts!)
The precision feeding of the ball, particularly by Becky Vaughn kept Nic well supplied with ball.
All 3 circle defenders worked hard to stem the flow of ball to the Glos GS who also was in outstanding form netting 47 of their 50 goals scored! She definitely kept them in the game!
A score line of 68-50 to Hurricanes demonstrates the pace & intensity of the game by both teams.
Players of the match-
Nic Jennings & Becky Vaughn.

Last game of the day Lightning v BC Knights, was always going to be tough encounter for this young team. Scores of 9-9 after the first interval was an indication of the game to come.
Fantastic shooting by Ellie Parker in the first half gave Lightning the edge by half time 21-17.
BC we’re not going to give in easily & fought for every ball. With the shooters under increasing pressure BC  kept Lightning’s lead to 4 with 15 mins to go.
Beth Atkins in one of her best games so far this season at both WD & WA supported by Jenny Graham @ C took control of the mid court & with Ella Flatman at GA taking on the shooting in the final Q, Lightning hung on to win by 3 goals. Defensively both Abi Tucker & Hannah Howl took turnovers at crucial times, but 15 yr old Hannah Howl was outstanding, not only in turnovers & rebounds but also bringing the ball through court.
This was a fantastic squad effort, particularly in the final Q to play calmly & maintain possession. Final score 36-33 consolidates their 3rd place in the Prem div.
It was good to see Meg Jennings back on court after almost 2 months out with injury.
