Friday night minis and juniors
Following the set up of this section within the club a few years ago we have grown from 12 players to over 100.
We train on a Friday evening from 6-8pm from years 2 – 6pm and due to such demand the numbers have been capped at 25 per age group to ensure all players get court time and input from coaches. We have a number of ex Hucclecote players coaching their children, along with current players and and mum’s from other netball clubs. This has meant that we have been able to have a high coaching to child ratio with all players making considerable progress throughout the season.
All year groups have focused on fundamental movement and handling skills whilst enjoying small sided games with years 5 and 6 moving incredibly successfully into the 7 aside game.
We ran our first ‘Mums and daughters’ netball tour to Cornwall for Yr 5 and 6 this year with over 60 on the tour and it was a hugely successful event that we are hoping to turn into an annual trip for the Cheltenham branch.
We have played Randwick, Richard Pates, Old Chelts and Gloucester Hucclecote across Yr 4 – 6, plus the 6 Cornish teams in the tournament.
The one thing that has been most evident this season is how much the girls want to play in matches so we are hoping Glos Netball will set up an U11 league next season and that we can enter an U11 team into the National Clubs competition in May, plus the u12 County League div 2 to stretch our players and provide them with challenging competition throughout the season.
Next year we are running Yr 3-6 and removing the Yr 2 age group as the numbers are so high. We do need to look at the longevity of this section of who will take it on though as each coach will move up with their respective year groups from this season onwards.
