26 February 2008 - U16 Regional League North Competition
U16's beat Pinehurst and Lawn.....
Hucclecote continued their superb start to the Under 16 Regional League North competition with wins against the Wiltshire teams - Pinehurst and Lawn.

Their first game against Pinehurst saw an evenly contested start, with both teams looking to find some consistency in their passing.  Solid defence from Beth Perry and Sam Cook provided the basis for the midcourt unit of Tanya White, Helen Werrell and Mary Crapper to increase their dominance over their opponents, and accurate shooting from Rhianna Hallbrook and Lily Simmonds saw Hucclecote lead 6-2 by the end of the first quarter and increase this to 11-6 by half time.  The introduction of Ella Gardener during the second half of the game and a high work rate from the whole team saw Hucclecote extend their lead to 18-9 by the end of the third quarter.  While Pinehurst worked hard to restrict shooting opportunities, Rhianna and Lily were in superb form netting 16 out of 19 attempts in the second half of the game, with Hucclecote winning the match by 27-13.  An excellent all round team performance against the strongest opponents they've faced so far in the competition.  Helen Werrell was nominated as Player's Player by Pinehurst.

Rhianna 19/25, Lily 8/9

Their second game against Lawn saw the introduction of Fran Preddy to WA and Hucclecote come storming out of the blocks.  Rhianna and Lily continued their shooting form, with Lily netting 10 straight attempts, while the defence prevented their opponents from scoring.  A 15-0 first quarter lead was followed by further fast flowing netball that was no match for Lawn.  By half-time and with the lead at 25-4 coach Arnie Brown took the opportunity to try out some different combinations, which highlighted the depth and versatility of the squad, as the lead hit 39-6 by the end of the third quarter.  Continued focus throughout the final quarter saw Lawn restricted to a single goal and Hucclecote eventually winning by 48-7.  Again, an excellent team effort, with all the girls showing real commitment throughout the entire match.  Sam Cook playing at GD was nominated as Player's Player by Lawn.
